1 What are the benefits of EUWAS?

The main objective of EUWAS is to provide public and private actors on local and regional levels in the countries of the European Union with up-to-date information on all relevant aspects of waste management. The site delivers a structured compilation and dissemination of data which are needed for daily work in bodies related to the waste sector.  EUWAS helps thus to overcome the unfortunate situation of heterogeneous data collection and insufficient use of available high quality data.

As a result, this cross-border service enhances the quality of decision-making, improves competitiveness and helps to find adequate solutions when implementing waste management measures in the respective municipalities and regions. Through intelligent collection and suitable preparation and presentation of existing waste data EUWAS provides different additonal service as partner search and supplier forums, tender information, etc.




2 How do I navigate on EUWAS?

Each page on EUWAS has a set of features to help you navigate through the site:

  • the menu on the left side of your screen lists all available topics of content that may be of interest to you
  • the dropdown menu in the top right corner of your screen allows you to switch between Englisch, Polish, German, Estonian, Lithuanian and Latvian. Usually it is thus possible to change the language of the document you are viewing.
  • the the menu at the top of your screen allows you to quickly consult the News section or the Glossary, and gives you access to the contact and other functions on EUWAS.
  • the menu on the right shows you related topics to the chosen content and leads you to additional information and documents.
  • the menu under the related topics on the right side contains the functionalities of my.EUWAS and is only available when you are registered member of EUWAS.



3 How can I find help and information while using the portal?

There are different kinds of help and information in EUWAS available.

  • For each item of EUWAS exists a specific FAQ.
  • Complex information are prepared as a step-by-step guides and lead you through the content.
  • There is also the possibility to ask experts in the forum of EUWAS.
  • At least you can ask experts of the EUWAS team for information.



4 What languages is EUWAS available in?

The aim of EUWAS is to provide the user with the information they are looking for in their own language or in a language they can understand, depending on the nature of the information.

The information and documents on the homepage, the sections immediately accessible from the homepage and the indexes are, as far as possible, available in the six languages: English, German, Estonian, Latvian, Lithuanian, and Polish. Exceptions to this general rule are only made for information that has a very short life, e.g.  news,  or is very spefic. Specialised information is generally available in at least two languages: English and the  one most commonly used by the audience the information is intended for.

Special arrangements for other EU member state official languages are being considered for the future, but this depends on the further development of EUWAS.




5 What are the costs of EUWAS?

As described in FAQ under "registration and support" you have to register as a member of EUWAS. After the trial period all full members have to pay an annual fee for the EUWAS service. This allows the access to all functionalities, the download of documents, learning material, topic-relevant data and texts as well as personal settings in the my.EUWAS desktop where it is possible to store files, search results and much more on a secure personal basis.

May be there are additional costs when you order products which are not for free (e.g. from the EUWAS shop).

6 Copyright on EUWAS?

The information on the EUWAS site is subject to a disclaimer and a copyright notice (see terms and conditions). As a general rule and unless otherwise indicated, the free information available on the site may be reproduced on condition that the source is acknowledged. Any queries regarding copyright may be addressed to the EUWAS consortium (see contact).




7 Who is EUWAS administered by?

EUWAS is administered by the EUWAS consortium that handled the general coordination, development and day-to-day-running of EUWAS. In addition is there an interdisciplinary team of experts from Poland, Germany, Letvia, Lithuania and Estonia responsible for the overall consistency of the material put out jointly on the Internet and for monitoring it.




8 How can I actively participate in the EUWAS development?

The EUWAS team would be happy to have you on board! As the EUWAS portal is growing from day to day the need for updating the information and writing articles is enormous. We welcome all EUWAS users to become an author.

Once you have filled out a few questions concerning you references we will give you the status “Author”. This status will be visible to all other EUWAS users. You are then allowed to upload your own article and to comment on other author’s publications. If you have any other contribution or support in mind, please send us a message. In any case you are welcome to join the team!
